Anthony Poon (b. 1945 - d. 2006) was a pioneer abstract artist in Singapore, best known for his paintings in the Wave Series, which he began working on in the early 1970's. Poon was a graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, before furthering his studies in the United Kingdom. Over the years, his practice progressed from paintings of geometric abstractions on flat canvases to three-dimensional relief paintings and large-scale sculptures. Throughout his prolific career, Poon was informed by themes of abstraction, such as colour, symmetry, dimension, and form. He explored these themes mainly through the mediums of painting and sculpture, and became known for his unique compositions of optical and formal complexity.
