Ju Ming (b. 1938) was born to a poor rural family. Giving up studies for work, he was encouraged by his father to undertake an apprenticeship under a famous local wood craftsman, Lee Chinchuan. In 1968, Ju undertook another apprenticeship under a significant sculptor and pioneer of the modern art movement in Taiwan, Yuyu Yang. This broadening of Ju's artistic vision marked a turn in his artistic career. He gradually became an internationally renowned sculptor.
